In SSA, the study by Sani and colleagues reported that galactin-3 at baseline predicts the combined outcome of cardiovascular death or HF hospitalisation at six months, with galectin-3 being more predictive than NT-proBNP (HR, 2.81, 95% CI 1.16–4.79; p = 0.0001 for galectin-3, and HR 2.12, 95% CI 1.06–4.22; p = 0.0328 for NT-proBNP, respectively) [23]. This evidence concerns the gene LGALS3 and hydrops fetalis.
