IBD Character, which is a prospective case-control study assessing the utility of proteomics in prognostication, presented the results from an inception cohort of 328 patients with IBD that identified 5 proteins (ITGAV, EpCAM, IL18, SLAMF7, and IL8) that could distinguish a high-risk group, defined as those who needed biologic agents or surgery after a period of remission, but this panel still needs prospective validation (47). The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
