ROS-mediated oxidative stress is thought to have a major role in synaptic dysregulation and neurodegeneration in AD, and various antioxidants, and the genetic overexpression of SOD2, have been explored as therapeutic strategies for AD (Dumont et al., 2009; Massaad et al., 2009; Bonda et al., 2010; Olajide et al., 2017a,b, 2018; Tönnies and Trushina, 2017; Misrani et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene SOD2 and Alzheimer disease.
