Several studies have shown that Kaiso directly or indirectly regulates the expression of various proteins in apical junctional complexes (e.g., ZO-1, E-cadherin) (Jones et al., 2012; Bassey-Archibong et al., 2016; Pierre et al., 2019; Robinson et al., 2019), which has important implications for diseases such as IBD and colon cancer (Pierre et al., 2015; Robinson et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene CDH1 and inflammatory bowel disease.
