GFAP and cerebral infarction: Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is a filament protein found within the glial cells of the CNS and have been useful in cerebral infarction, preterm neurological abnormalities, encephalopathy and TBI.82 Despite evidence that serum GFAP is elevated in TBI, the focus is on CT-positive TBI or neurosurgical cases and is therefore not relevant to concussion.81
