Grasso et al. has used a chemical screen of patient-derived DIPG cultures along with RNA sequence (RNAseq) analysis to identify histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor panobinostat, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drug for the adult hematological malignancy multiple myeloma, as a potential therapeutics for the treatment of DIPG, as it restores H3-K27 methylation and subsequent normalization of gene expression [25]. Here, HDAC9 is linked to diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma.
