IFNG and autism: In addition, the results presented in this review and the proposed model are based on currently available evidence from the autism literature; therefore, it does not exclude the fact that other cellular sources, such as innate lymphoid cells and NK T cells, although present in very small numbers in the circulating blood, might also contribute to the production of IL-17, IFN-γ, and other T cell cytokines, which have yet to be investigated.
