Analyzing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein evolution (i.e., identifying the spike amino acid variants) within a broad range of geographical locations using the bioinformatic tools and the Global Initiative for Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) SARS-CoV-2 sequence database during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic facilitates the study of the possible mutations which in turn may bring innovations in the development of the current vaccination strategies (Noor et al. 2022; Khare et al. 2021; Korber 2020).
