This variant of IgA PIGN must be distinguished from other clinical entities, especially IgA nephropathy (mesangial IgA deposits) and postinfectious glomerulonephritis (C3, IgG and occasional IgM capillary loop deposits with or without mesangial distribution), since patients with IgA PIGN may require steroid treatment in addition to antibiotic therapy. This evidence concerns the gene CD79A and IgA glomerulonephritis.
