Among the genes near the replicated variants associated with SA, SOX5 was previously associated with schizophrenia, depression, neuroticism, chronotype, chronic back pain, C-reactive protein levels, cortical thickness, and surface area [52, 58–63], and is among a panel of genes contributing to the bidirectional causal effect of neuroticism on MDD [64]. This evidence concerns the gene SOX5 and depressive disorder.
