Among the ischaemic stroke subtypes, genetic predisposition to upregulated TMPRSS5 was associated with higher risk of any ischaemic stroke (OR per-1-SD higher plasma protein level [95%CI] = 1.059[1.038, 1.08]; P = 1.36 × 10−8) and cardioembolic stroke (OR[95%CI] = 1.089[1.045, 1.134]; P = 5.33 × 10−5). Here, TMPRSS5 is linked to cardioembolic stroke.
