The MECP2 null circuitry phenotype shows similarity to the reduced rate and increased duration of network bursts observed in Kleefstra syndrome induced excitatory neural cultures cocultured with rodent astrocytes, where these changes were found to be mediated by upregulation of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit GRIN1 expression [22]. This evidence concerns the gene MECP2 and Kleefstra syndrome.
