CRP and COVID-19: Interestingly, the impaired gene expression of these enzymes is negatively correlated to plasmatic levels of C-reactive protein (Figure 1B) and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (Supplementary Figure 2), two inflammatory markers of the disease (30, 31), which is in agreement with the idea that the reduced expression of ectonucleotidases is at least in part accountable for the inflammatory status of COVID-19.
