In several neurodegenerative diseases, including AD and FTD, it has been reported that deficiency of autophagy or lysosomal function leads to the accumulation of aggregate-prone proteins such as mutant or phosphorylated tau or Aβ (Hamano et al., 2008; Haass et al., 2012; Xin et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and neurodegenerative disease.
