From these studies, it is unclear if the protective effect of Dennd5b deficiency on atherosclerosis is a direct consequence of altered plasma cholesterol concentrations or other indirect effects of Dennd5b. The goal of the current study was to examine the effects of Dennd5b on plasma lipoprotein concentrations, hepatic lipid metabolism, and atherosclerosis in a model of hypercholesterolemia that is not strictly diet-induced. The gene discussed is DENND5B; the disease is familial hypercholesterolemia.
