In this regard, increases in inflammatory markers such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, and IL-12 are associated with higher risk of developing hypertension (Jayedi et al., 2019); they also have been shown to have detrimental consequences on vasculature, particularly by promoting atherosclerotic lesions, leukocytes adhesion to the endothelium, and increase in atherosclerotic plaque formation (Galkina and Ley 2009). Here, TNF is linked to Hypertension.
