In a rat model of diabetes-induced cardiac myopathy, resveratrol was reported to increase mRNA and protein levels of both PGC-1α and NRF-1 and promote mitochondrial biogenesis, however, SIRT1 inhibition abolished this effect, confirming that the effect of resveratrol occurred through the SIRT-mediated deacetylation and activation of PGC-1α [75].
