Weekly wine consumption reduced the risk of obesity by 44% (OR = 0.56) for the wild type (TT) (p = 0.009) and by 32% (OR = 0.68) for those who carried at least one FTO rs9939609 risk allele (p = 0.005) compared to their non-drinking counterparts (n = 494 and n = 1260, respectively) (Table 5). Here, FTO is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
