Interestingly, a derivative of resveratrol, oxyresveratrol (a hydroxyl-substituted stilbene), was also reported to induce apoptosis-like cell death, resulting in an accumulation of cells at the sub-G1 phase of the cell cycle in triple negative breast cancer cells, MDA-MB-231, by caspase-independent pathway through chromatin condensation, induction of ROS, DNA fragmentation, phosphatidyl serine externalization, PARP cleavage, decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential Δψm and nuclear translocation of AIF [78]. Here, AIFM1 is linked to triple-negative breast carcinoma.
