While our studies clearly support a role for colonocyte ZnT2 in regulating TLR4, we did not evaluate the gut microbiome or characterize changes in Citrobacter rodentium clearance throughout the course of infection, thus advanced transcriptomic and metabolomic studies are required to determine the degree to which the gut microbiome is involved in the response to an infectious challenge in this model. Here, SLC30A2 is linked to infection.
