Interestingly, a PNPT1–ALK fusion gene generated by anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene (ALK) rearrangement (fusion of exons 1–19 of PNPT1 with exons 19–29 of ALK) exerted significant benefit to crizotinib treatment in a NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer) patient [31]. The gene discussed is ALK; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
