Mutations in genes SOD1, TARDBP (TDP-43), and FUS together occur in 20–30% of the familial type of the disease [30], and mutations in the SOD1 gene alone affect up to 20% of patients with the autosomal dominant type of familial ALS and 2% of patients with the sporadic type of ALS [31]. Here, SOD1 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
