SARS-CoV-2 enters the host cell through its spike protein by binding to the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the S1 subunit to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), a receptor of the host cell surface, thereby initiating infection; this is further accompanied by the S2 subunit with the help of cellular proteases, fusing the virus the cell and successfully releasing the viral genome into the cell [2]. Here, ACE2 is linked to infection.
