TIMP1 and TIMP 2 emerge as useful diagnostic markers in neurodegenerative diseases: TIMP 1 level elevates in the CSF in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases as well as in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), while TIMP-2 levels increase in Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s diseases. Here, TIMP1 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
