PKM and Cachexia: In line with this result, we also measured the mRNA expression levels of the key rate-limiting enzymes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, as shown in Figure 1C. In addition to the increased expression of hexokinase (HK), there was a significantly decreased expression of pyruvate kinase M1/2 (PKM), lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA), phosphofructokinase, platelets (PFKP), phosphofructokinase, liver type (PFKL), and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 1 (PCK1), indicating decreased carbohydrate utilization in the muscle of cachexia mice.
