Despite the heterogeneity of germline BRCA1/BRCA2 mutations in Portuguese breast or/and ovarian cancer families, the first described founder mutation in the BRCA2 gene (c.156_157insAlu) and two other variants in the BRCA1 gene (c.3331_3334del and c.2037delinsCC) contribute to about 50% of all pathogenic mutations. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
