MSU crystal-induced inflammation also resulted in edema and increased ankle circumference 24 hours after MSU crystal injection in WT mice, but also this response was significantly reduced in POP1TG mice (Figure 2B), indicating that the ameliorated inflammatory response to sterile NLRP3 activators is independent of the target organ and that POP1 has an important role in preventing excessive inflammatory responses and the pathology of gout.
