The Galectin-3 protein, which is known to have an effect on immune system cells and play a role in inflammation, fibrosis, apoptosis and host defense, has been studied in various viral infections in the literature [17]. For example, in their study, Alcendor et al. found that the Galectin-3 level decreased in Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpes virus infection [18]. Here, LGALS3 is linked to viral infectious disease.
