MALAT1 and diabetic kidney disease: The overexpression of lncRNA MALAT1 can inhibit the expression of miR-23c, upregulate ELAVL1 expression, and increase the expression of its downstream proteins NLRP3 and Caspase-1 and the proinflammatory cytokine IL-1β, thus regulating the occurrence of ferroptosis and apoptosis caused by Nrf2 and exacerbating the development of DKD, which indicates that lncRNA MALAT1 can affect the development of diabetes by regulating Nrf2, a key regulator of ferroptosis (Gordon et al., 2018; Huang et al., 2021).
