MAPKAPK5 and gout: Even under selection limitation of those carrying rs2231142 wild genotype in this study, the major risk genes for developing gout were located in chromosomes 4 and 12, including region of chromosome 4 of SLC2A9, ZNF518B, PKD2, ABCG2, and the region of chromosome 12 of genes ALDH2, MAPKAPK5, and HECTD4. This illustrates that these genes show effects on gout independently of rs2231142 (ABCG2).
