DLG1 and cancer: Alterations in Dlg1, Scribble, and Lgl1 functions could promote tumorigenesis by, first, promoting hyperplasia and, second, leading to a loss of cell polarity, thereby reducing cell adhesion and facilitating aggressive overgrowth and invasive behavior (Vieira et al., 2008), suggesting they are involved in pathways that play a major role in cancer development (Zhan et al., 2008; Elsum et al., 2012; Feigin et al., 2014; Pearson et al., 2015).
