Recently, mice lacking both GR and MR in cardiomyocytes were resistant to the cardiac disease (heart failure) that develops in mice lacking myocardial GR only indicating the importance of a physiologic balance between these two receptor signaling pathways which seem to be vital for maintaining the healthy heart (Cruz-Topete et al., 2019; Oakley et al., 2019). The gene discussed is NR3C2; the disease is heart failure.
