Among the different stroke etiologies, serum transthyretin levels were equivalent between large-artery atherosclerosis and cardioembolism (223.4 ± 56.5 vs. 217.5 ± 64.1 mg/L; p = 0.50), and the levels in large-artery atherosclerosis were lower than those in small-vessel occlusion (223.4 ± 56.5 vs. 253.4 ± 52.5 mg/L; p < 0.001).
