The Desmoglein Compensation Hypothesis (DCH) is an elegant theory first proposed by Stanley and Amagai that correlates clinical presentation of pemphigus with the profile of autoantibodies directed against the cadherins desmoglein (Dsg)3 and -1 as the drivers of site-specific loss of cell-cell adhesion and blister formation (1, 2). This evidence concerns the gene DSG3 and pemphigus.
