It has been shown that vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) are upregulated in the corpus cavernosum of diabetic rats, and these proteins can promote the generation of mucosal blood vessels and increase the risk of vascular thrombosis (Scaldaferri et al., 2009). This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and Venous thrombosis.
