Li et al. (2021) found that lncRNA OIP5-AS1 was upregulated in CC tissues and promoted the Warburg effect through induction of the miR-124-5p/IDH2/HIF-1α pathway, leading to proliferation of CC cells. By contrast, studies in RIP1-Tag2 mice showed that intracellular copper expression levels regulate cancer cell proliferation and oxidative phosphorylation through the formation of cytochrome oxidase catalysis (Ishida et al., 2013). The gene discussed is OIP5; the disease is cancer.
