The promiscuousness of TGF-β/BMP deregulation in cancer, inflammation, fibrosis, and aberrant angiogenesis has led to the development of numerous therapeutic agents targeting this pathway (reviewed by Akhurst53 and Cunha6), including small molecule inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, ligand traps, and anti-sense RNAs.
