The GRADE trial was designed (2008) and launched (July 2013) before US Food and Drug Administration approval of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors and several cardiovascular outcomes trials that showed reduction in atherosclerotic cardiovascular and kidney disease outcomes with use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, and in heart failure and kidney disease outcomes with use of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and kidney disorder.
