Another cohort study performed in 18 pregnant women showed that umbilical cord blood (UCB) collected from the placenta of mothers with obesity had increased lymphocyte subsets CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, NK, and CD8+CD25+Foxp3+ Treg cells while CD34+ cells, in which HSPCs are enriched, were decreased (Gonzalez-Espinosa et al., 2016). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
