The increase in IL-27 mRNA at day 60 is of interest, since although IL-27 in vitro augments differentiation of naïve T cells toward a IFN-γ-producing phenotype (Takeda et al., 2003; Kamiya et al., 2004; Owaki et al., 2006), expression of IL-27 in vivo during various infections, including M.tb, has been shown to have a detrimental effect on the control of infections and reduces the amount of IFN-γ produced by CD4 T cells (Abdalla et al., 2015; Wang and Liu, 2016). This evidence concerns the gene IFNG and infection.
