If mGuR2 deficiency is a pathological key mechanism in alcoholism (Holmes et al., 2013; Meinhardt et al., 2013; Meinhardt et al., 2021; Spanagel et al., 2013; Spanagel and Vengeliene, 2013) pharmacological logic dictates that mGlu2 activation should reduce addiction-related behaviors such as alcohol-seeking responses (i.e., craving). This evidence concerns the gene GRM2 and alcohol dependence.
