Especially, NLRP3 inflammasome promotes plaque formation and contributes to the development of atherosclerosis by affecting several targets, including signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), microRNA network, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and protein kinase R (PKR) (Hoseini et al., 2018). Here, NLRP3 is linked to atherosclerosis.
