Lee et al., using a stroke model, namely by performing occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCAO) in rats, showed that miR-153–3p expression was reduced in the ischemic region of the brain, and hypoxia-inducible factor-1a (HIF - 1a) and its downstream targets (vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and Notch homolog 1 (Notch1)) were activated [34].
