The vasculature-rich nature of RCC has led to the approval of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, including sorafenib, sunitinib, pazopanib, and axitinib (Escudier et al., 2007; Motzer et al., 2007; Rini et al., 2011; Motzer et al., 2014), targeting the VEGF signaling axis as first- and second-line therapies for metastatic RCC in the United States and the European Union.
