This section focuses on the role of NLRP3 inflammasomes in the pathogenesis and progression of periodontitis, provides an update on what is currently known about the effects of NLRP3 inflammasome activity on various cell types (including but not limited to osteoclasts, osteoblasts, gingival fibroblasts, periodontal ligament cells, and immune cells), and summarizes the current research on the potential role of NLRP3 inflammasomes in the treatment of periodontitis. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and periodontitis.
