Two loci at 5q35 and 5q23 (Fig. 4) that passed the genome-wide significant threshold with CC-GWAS and Fam-meta have not yet been reported as associated with T2D by previous studies, but appear to be particularly promising: promoter and enhancer histone marks are described in the adipose tissue [9] for the top association at 5q35 that lies in an intron of ADAMTS2 (ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 2). The gene discussed is ADAMTS2; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
