Interestingly, in this study—where IFNα was shown to increase IL-10 production by healthy B cells via STAT3 phosphorylation—stimulation of SLE B cells with IFNα did not lead to IL-10 upregulation, but rather to an increase in the production of IL-6 and TNFα by B cells. The gene discussed is IFNA1; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
