KDR and cancer: It is the most commonly mutated gene in cancer and has diverse functions important to oncogenesis.12–17 Unfortunately, TP53 alterations are considered difficult to target from a therapeutic standpoint.12–17 Groups have, however, reported an increase in the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in a pan-cancer analysis as well as improvement in outcome of patients who receive VEGF/VEGFR inhibitors when their tumors harbor deleterious TP53 alterations as a possible therapeutic proxy for targeting harmful TP53 alterations.13,15,17
