A potential mechanism by which CD4+ cells contribute to hypertension is that these cells secrete inflammatory cytokines IFNγ and Interleukin-17 (IL-17) (Bestetti et al., 2019), as mice deficient in these cytokines failed to secrete these cytokines and develop hypertension in response to ANG II infusion (Madhur et al., 2010; Kamat et al., 2015; Saleh et al., 2016).
