IFNG and inborn error of immunity: The vast majority of T. marneffei cases are diagnosed in HIV-positive patients (Supparatpinyo et al., 1994; Kawila et al., 2013), while cases have also been described in other immunocompromised individuals, such as patients with adult-onset acquired immunodeficiency due to autoantibodies against interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) (Guo et al., 2020), various inborn errors of immunity (IEI) (Tangye et al., 2020), hematological malignancies, diabetes mellitus and those taking corticosteroids or immunosuppressive agents (Qiu et al., 2015).
